How To Change Your Name
If your legal name has changed and you'd like to update it on your Millikin account, or if you'd like to adjust your nickname or preferred name, here are the steps you can follow:
Step-By-Step Guide:
Contact an academic department to have your name changed in our administrative system (Banner):
If you are a Student, contact our Registrar's Office.
If you are an Alumnus, contact our Alumni and Development Office.
If you are a Faculty or Staff Member, contact Human Resources.
Once your name has been changed in our administrative system, you'll automatically receive an e-mail from Information Technology asking if you'd like to update services like your e-mail account, Moodle, and myMILLIKIN. When you receive this e-mail, you can reply to it and let us know when would be a good time to rename your myMILLIKIN account.
Renaming your Account takes a couple of minutes to synchronize across our systems.
During that time, we recommend you avoid accessing any Millikin Services - including myMILLIKIN and your Millikin E-Mail Account.
If you are currently taking classes, your Username for myMILLIKIN cannot be renamed until after the grades have been posted at the end of the semester.
This is because Moodle cannot associate your new name with your old name, thus causing any quizzes, grades, or assignments to not transfer correctly.
In this case, we can update the display name on your account, however, your Username and E-Mail Address cannot be changed until the end of the semester.
If your Millikin e-mail address is set up on a phone, tablet, or other mobile device, you'll need to delete the account from your device and set it up again with your new username. It may take up to an hour for our mobile e-mail system to update your name.
