O365 Email - Android Setup Instructions
How to access your Millikin email from an Android device
If you already have a Millikin email account set up on your mobile device(s), follow the instructions to remove the old email account first, and then add the new account. Otherwise, simply skip to adding the new account.
Remove the Old Email Account from Android
From the Applications menu, select Settings, then select Accounts.
Tap the original millikin.edu account (it could be any name such as Corporate, Email, Exchange, your name).
Look for an option to Remove Account.
You may need to click on Account settings and then click your email address to get to the “Remove account” option. This method is different on different phone models.
Confirm that you want to remove this old email account.
No new emails will be going to this account after migration.
Setup the new Office 365 Email account on Android
This is the same process that you used to setup your current Email account.
In some older Android devices, the built in email software on the Android phone cannot connect to newer versions of Office 365 Exchange email properly. In those cases, you can use Touchdown or the Microsoft Outlook app from the Play Store instead.
Using the Microsoft Outlook for Android app may be a preferred solution for you instead of using the built in Mail application because of its richer feature set. The use of Microsoft Outlook for Android is outside the scope of this document.
From the Applications menu, select Settings, select Accounts, select Add account, select Corporate. Type your full email address, for example JSmith@millikin.edu, and your password, and then select Next. This password is the same password that you entered for Office 365 online.
Select Exchange account. This option may be named Exchange ActiveSync/Corporate on some phones
Enter the following account information and select Next.
Domain\Username: Type your full email address in this box. If Domain and Username are separate text boxes in your version of Android, leave the Domain box empty and type your full email address in the Username box.
On some versions of Android, you must use the domain\username format. For example, if your email address is JSmith@millikin.edu, type millikin.edu\JSmith@millikin.edu. Your username is your full email address like jsmith@millikin.edu
Password: Use the password that you use to access your account. This is the same password used on your myMillikin password.
Exchange Server: Enter outlook.office365.com for your server name.
You may receive the following message, "Remote security administration Server outlook.office365.com must be able to remotely control some security features on your phone. Continue?" If you agree, select OK
As soon as your phone verifies the server settings, the Account Options screen displays. The options available depend on the version of Android on your device. The options may include the following:
Email checking frequency: The default value is Automatic (push). When you select this option, email messages will be sent to your phone as they arrive. We recommend selecting this option if you have an unlimited data plan.
Amount to synchronize: This is the amount of mail you want to keep on your mobile phone. You can choose from several length options, including One day, Three days, and One week.
Notify me when email arrives: If you select this option, your mobile phone will notify you when you receive a new email message.
Sync contacts from this account: If you select this option, your contacts will be synchronized between your phone and your account.
Select Next and then type a name for this account and the name you want displayed when you send e-mail to others. Select Done to complete the email setup and start using your account.
You may be prompted with the following message, Activate phone administrator? Server outlook.office365.com must be able to remotely control some security features on your phone..." If you agree, select Activate.
You may need to wait ten to fifteen minutes after you set up your account before you can send or receive e-mail.
